アイアンサイドに到着した一行、5日目の日曜日はそれぞれのホストファミリーと過ごしました。引率の先生方もホッと小休止。ほぼリアルタイムで届いていた写真が途絶え、日本にいる保護者は少しそわそわ、な１日でした。
6日目：いよいよ４ヶ月に渡って準備をしてきたパフォーマンスの本番当日です！写真でも伝わるように、随分と盛り上がり、大成功だったそうです。特に参加型の大縄ではアイアンサイドの小学生と一体となって楽しみました。空手の演技は最初、見慣れない動きに「なにこれ？」とちょっと笑いも起きたものの、すぐにその迫力にみんなが見入って惹きこまれていたそうです。分かるなぁ！空をきる拳とはためく道着の鋭い音、緩急自在な美しい動きに、研修の場で私も魅了されました。書道パフォーマンスも、出来上がりを見せると「おお〜！」と声が上がったそうです。大大大成功、のパフォーマンスでした。
アイアンサイドの学生も、日本語の歌を用意してくれていたそうです。「世界が一つになるまで」を文字通り世界の縮図と言えるほど多様な背景を持つ子ども達が歌ってくれる様子はとても心を動かされる情景だったとのこと。子ども達の心にはどう響いたのでしょうか。すぐに言葉にできなくても、とても大切な何かを感じ心に刻んでくれたのではないかと思います。
さらにこの「世界が一つになるまで」は今回多く訪豪している現５年生達が、昨年連合音楽会で歌った楽曲なのだそうで、五年生の訪豪メンバー、また当時その学年の担任をしていた引率の先生にとって、嬉しい偶然だったのではと思います。
しかし、そう保護者の方に教えてもらうまで、全くその事実に気がつかず、教えてもらってなおその歌をとんと思い出せない自分に軽く衝撃を覚え、あらためて年齢を感じたことも謹んでここに報告しておきたいと思います。。。
Day 5: It was Sunday so children spent a day with their respective host families. It was a good break for the accompanying adults too. We didn't receive any photos that day, so for families in Japan, it was a long waiting day.
Day6 : The day of performance! We prepared for this for 4 months, and finally it was the big day. Looks like it was a huge success. Particularly rope jumping was fun for both Ironside and Sakai children. Karate and Calligraphy also got a very good reception and applause from the audience.
Ironside students sang a song for us in Japanese in return! The title is "Until the World Becomes One" and one of the staffs said that it was really a moving moment to hear this song sung by such a diverse students representing the cultures literally from all around the world. On top of that, it was the song that our students sang last year in a choral competition. What a lovely coincidence!
